FAQs
No question is a silly question.

Why Zoom?
Zoom is one of the most stable video-conferencing platforms. It also provides a myriad of features which enhance the learning and teaching experiences for students and teachers respectively. The simplicity of this app/software encourages students (especially middle school students) to attend live Maths classes. It is a public consensus that technological barriers (roadblocks) such as connectivity, UI (user interface), bandwidth, cross-platform friendliness will discourage younger children (particularly disadvantaged children who are less digital literate) to participate in online learning.
It was found that by using “Zoom”, the learning process is more interactive, which creates positive student satisfaction and better
experiences in their learning journey. The innovative approach of “Zoom” enhances positive learning outcomes for diverse groups of students as well as encouraging higher education in remote areas. (Sayem et al. 2017)
I have heard about Zoom's privacy concerns, is it safe?
Just like any other video conferencing services, Zoom is encrypted. It only poses privacy threats to hosts or users who are not familiar or being careless with the settings. In our Zoom live classes, it requires you to have a meeting ID and password. Once you are connected, you will be placed in the waiting room until Mr Huan admits you into the lesson. Any annotation tools have been disengaged simply because there is no need and the system prohibits students to share their screens. This poses a minimal privacy risk and automatically dismiss the rumours about Zoom's privacy concerns.
Why Live?
Self-isolating students have already lost social interactions with friends and some students could be the only child at home. Instead of feeding students with a series of Maths or educational videos without confirmed supervision of an adult, Mr Huan's live lessons aspire to provide students with the opportunity to still learn with classmates or even new friends across the nation or countries. It subtly looks after the wellbeing of the students. Meanwhile, progresses in Mathematics. Social interaction is strongly related to online learning enjoyment, the effectiveness of learning online, and the likelihood of taking another online class. (Muilenberg & Berge, 2005)
Website vs LMS (Learning Management System)?
LMS has been an all-time favourite for teachers, tutors and lecturers. It is a good platform for senior school, university and mature age students. It requires a login process and the ability to navigate around the LMS portal. Due to the uncertain nature of this pandemic, the majority of students are not yet too familiar with the navigation of LMS. It is easier for students to remember a catchy domain (website address) compared to a long yet unfamiliar domain and navigation of an existing LMS or a recently-developed LMS.
